The Source of Rest

Matt. 11:28, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Christ tells us He is the one who gives us rest. Many look for rest through sleep aid medications because of the stresses of life. Others use alcohol, but the Bible clearly tells us that true rest comes from Christ, the Prince of Peace. He promises, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you.

Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27) So how do we achieve that rest and peace? “There are many professing Christians who are anxious and depressed, many who are so full of busy activity that they cannot find time to rest quietly in the promises of God, who act as if they could not afford to have peace and quietness. To all such Christ’s invitation is, “Come unto Me . . . and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28. Let us turn from the dusty, heated thoroughfares of life to rest in the shadow of Christ’s love.

Here we gain strength for conflict. Here we learn how to lessen toil and worry, and how to speak and sing to the praise of God.” (CH 251) So if you are having sleep issues, tonight, why not start by spending 30 – 60 minutes with the Word before going to bed; and “WATCH GOD WORK!”
