Shift work & health

Ecclesiastes 3:1, “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven”. God’s Word also tells us to work while it is day, for night cometh when no man shall work (See John 9:4). These text insinuate that ideally, its best to work during the day and sleep during the night. This has been verified by a study on the British Medical Journal website of July 26, 2012, which shows that shift workers, (defined as any schedule that deviates from a regular “9-to-5” day) have an increase risk for heart attacks and strokes caused by a blocked artery. Studies involving 2 million Canadian patients were reviewed. A high risk was seen especially in overnight shifts, but the highest rate was seen in shifts that frequently change, swing shifts! If you are a shift worker be very vigilant in making sure you monitor your health and reduce any other risk factors for disease!
