Proverbs 23:1, 2 – “When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee: And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.” This seems extreme, doesn’t it! But a recent study in the Journal of the American Medial Association (2003, 289:187-193) shows that this is what many are unconsciously doing.
Research shows that being obese may cuts your lifespan by as much as 20 years in Black men and 5 years in Black women. Other lifestyle habits such as smoking also shorten life expectancy even further. To prevent or combat this epidemic problem, start every day with a good high fiber, low fat breakfast; omit all between meal snacks; reduce or eliminate suppers, and greatly reducing the fat intake!
These practices will go a long way in winning “the battle of the bulge.” So eat to glorify God, and not to satisfy and incontinent appetite. And remember, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” (Philippians 4:13)
