Rose Hips a very common and available herb was shown in two randomized studies to reduce the pain and increase flexion of patients with osteoarthritis of the hips after 3 months. The authors concluded that, “In both studies rosehip powder had a moderate effect in patients with osteoarthritis.” (The clinical effectiveness of rosehip powder in patients with osteoarthritis. A systematic review MMW Fortschr Med. 2007 Jun 28;149(11):51-6) Other herbs that have anti-arthritic properties include: Cat’s claw, white willow bark and yucca root, but should be used with caution in persons taking aspirin or blood thinners.
