You are probably aware of the detrimental effects of salt on blood pressure. But did you know that the type of carbohydrates that you eat also affect your blood pressure. It could drop your systolic BP 4 to 8 points and your diastolic BP another 6 to 8 points.” Eating 25 grams of fiber each day (38 grams if you are a man under 50), could add 2.5 years to your life expectancy, compared to eating 12 grams of fiber per day.” (Real Age Newsletter of December 27, 2007) High fiber foods also lowers cholesterol.
