Next week is Poison Prevention Week. In 2002 there were over 1.2 million accidental poisonings reported to the CDC in children under five years of age in the U.S. 96 deaths occurred! The most common agents were: household cleaning agents, iron, alcohol and carbon monoxide. Therefore it is very important that if you have children in you home, make sure that these items are stored out of reach or in a locked cabinet to avoid this from occurring. In case your child or someone you know ingest a chemical or substance that can be harmful, call a poison control center immediately or take the child to the nearest emergency room! Do not try to induce vomiting! This could cause serious complications. Remember, an ounce of prevention is worth a “ton” of cure!
