Tuesday March 25th. is American Diabetes Alert Day! Do you know if you have diabetes? Approximately 7 million Americans have diabetes and don’t know it. You are at risk for diabetes if someone in you family has it, if you are overweight, if you are prone to getting infections. If you are loosing weight and have not changed you eating habits, if you are constantly thirsty and always drinking water because of it; then you may have diabetes. As you are aware, this condition is devastating to ones health, contributing to heart attacks, stokes, blindness, amputation of extremities, kidney failure with resultant dialysis and myriads of other health problems. You should have there blood sugars checked regularly, especially if you have any of the above risk factors. This can be done by your health care provider, at a health fair or by someone with a glucometer (an instrument to check your blood sugar). Remember, early detection and treatment can improve your health and save your life!
