We can’t do anything about how old we are, our chronological age. But we can impact our biological age; how quickly our body functions deteriorate. A study from the British Medical Journal of April 10, 2008 reveals, “By maintaining aerobic fitness through middle age and beyond, people can delay biological aging up to 12 years and prolong an independent lifestyle during old age.” Aerobic exercise improves oxygen consumption in the body as well as its use in generating energy, known as metabolism. Oxygen consumption begins to drop in middle age and aerobic activities like brisk walking, jogging or bike riding prevents and can reverse this process. “When physical exercise is taken, the circulation is quickened. The heart receives blood faster and sends it to the lungs faster. The lungs work more vigorously, furnishing a greater amount of blood, which is sent with stronger power through the entire being. Exercise gives new life and strength to every part of the body.” (Reflecting Christ p. 147) SO LET’S GET MOVING!
