Would you like to have better brain functions? With the population aging and the resultant increase in dementia, any lifestyle practice to improve brain function should be embraced. In a study reported in the newsletter, MAKING HEALTHY CHOICES, June 2011 researchers at Duke and Emory Universities administered a battery of cognitive function test to overweight patients with hypertension. They divided them into 3 groups: one maintaining their usual activities; one assigned to the DASH diet and one following the DASH diet and exercise for 4 months. (The DASH Diet is high in fruits and vegetables and low in saturated fat and calories.) At the end of 4 months the test were repeated which showed improvement in the DASH diet group, even greater improvement in the diet and exercise group but no improvement and even a decline in the group that made no changes. So why not exercise your options to exercise more and eat more fruits and vegetables, for better health!
