You have probably heard that you should eat 5–10 servings of fruits and vegetables each day. This is a good program to follow, as long as those fruits and vegetables do not contain added sugars or fats. For instance, if you included 5 servings of fruits with your breakfast you would feel full with few calories. A good breakfast consisting of a cup of whole grain cereal like oatmeal, sweetened with ¼ cup of raisins and a small banana, an 8 ounce glass of orange juice, a ½ cup of pineapple chunks, and a small apple, a piece of whole grain toast with peanut butter spread thinly on top, would give you a quick nutritious breakfast which would definitely fill you up. This breakfast contains 872 calories and 15.5 grams of fiber! By contrast a McDonald’s Deluxe Breakfast contains 1197 calories and 4.2 grams of fiber with you probably getting hungry 2 hours later. A second meal consisting of ½ cup brown rice, ½ cup black beans, 1 cup turnip greens, ½ cup cooked carrots, 1 cup cooked squash, 1 piece of whole wheat bread and 1 small tomato contains 415 calories and 24.8 grams of fiber. Compare this with a KFC Variety Big Box Meal with a whopping 1220 calories and only 8 grams of fiber. It’s easy to see why God’s dietary plan would aid in weight management. So why not commit today to following God’s dietary plan by including 5 servings of fruit and 5 servings of vegetables each day, for better weight and health!
