“And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.” Gen. 1:29 “Grains, fruits, nuts, and vegetables constitute the diet chosen for us by our Creator. These foods, prepared in as simple and natural a manner as possible, are the most healthful and nourishing.” (MH 296) Here we find outlined the foods the Creator chose for his children. It is a diet which contains foods that are calorie sparse, meaning you can eat a substantial quantity without getting a large amount of calories. One of the reasons they are calorie sparse is because they all contain substantial amounts of fiber, which is the non-digestible part of plants that does not contain calories. The Creator included fiber in His dietary plan as a natural barrier against obesity. Fiber is found in all unrefined plant foods. Recent studies have documented the benefits of fiber in weight management. “Epidemiologic support that dietary fiber intake prevents obesity is strong. Fiber intake is inversely associated with body weight and body fat. In addition, fiber intake is inversely associated with body mass index at all levels of fat intake after adjusting for confounding factors…. Many mechanisms have been suggested for how dietary fiber aids in weight management, including promoting satiation, decreasing absorption of macronutrients, and altering secretion of gut hormones.” (Nutrition. 2005 Mar;21(3):411-8.) So why not commit today to following God’s dietary plan by eating more fiber! This is done by increasing the amounts of unrefined plant foods in your diet.
